Preamble:
St Patrick’s Day is always one of my favorite days of the year. March Madness, the start of spring, warm weather, the upcoming Masters, and of course a good Guiness beer or 5! YHC grabbed the Q and organized a fun activity that would also challenge the PAX. Several pre-runners emerged from an extra gloomy morning and 16 total PAX set out into said gloom.
Warm-O-Rama:
Head to the Wills Road parking lot for
- SSH
- Imperial Walker
- Windmill
- Mike Tysons
Mosey over to the parking lot adjacent to the community garden for the main event.
The Thang:
With an Irish Pub playlist rocking, count off and divide into 2 teams. A PAX on each team would get a chance to throw two discs into the disc golf hole approximately 50 yards away. 1 Team would offer a wager of 1-5 using Leprechaun Gold Coins. Each round where there was not a basket made, all of the teammates who are in plank would get up and do 5 burpees. Same for the catchers. The throwing PAX would then take two lunges forward, getting them closer to the basket increasing their chance to score. The first PAX to score without the opposing PAX matching would be declared the winner and receive the Gold coins that were wagered. Double coins were awarded for ringing the basket twice in one round by a single PAX. During the course of the game, we changed up the exercises to merkins, back and forth running and more. Anything to not be idle! After 8 rounds and all 16 PAX had thrown, we took an intermission to run up Broke Back Mountain. Back to the game area, with time running short, each team was informed to send their best 3 throwers for the sudden death rounds. The wagers were set to 10, 20 and then unlimited. Team 1 emerged winners by 100 coins which meant that Team 2 had a 100 burpee penalty once we returned to the flag. Team 1 did a few minutes of Mary while watching Team 2 suffer.
COT:
Lots of prayer requests this morning for family and friends struggling with illness, death and other pain. Gratitude was spoken about how lucky we are to be able to come out here together being healthy to laugh, play games, get stronger, share our struggles and overall become better men. The TNT that followed over coffee echoed the same sentiment. We are truly blessed. Let’s be mindful to give this gift away to others.
Always honored to lead,
-Cookie
