Back to Spring Training

AO: The Phoenix

When: 2025-07-02

QIC: Yeah-Yeah

PAX (6): Mantooth, Mr. Hand, Samsonite, Schneider, The Body

Preamble:

Wanted to take the PAX back to my playing days down in Clearwater, FL with a few goodies from Spring Training. Powered of course by Creed.

Warm-O-Rama:

Mosey down to lower soccer field where 4 cones were set up in a rectangle (~70ft by ~30ft). We ran through one session to get everyone familiarized with the main event. Sprint first long side, side shuffle the short side to the next cone, then backpedal the 2nd long side and finally side shuffle back to the starting cone. Circled up and did:
  • SSHs
  • Weed pickers
  • Grady Corns
  • Michale Phelps
  • Runner's Stretch

The Thang:

Ended up with an even number of PAX - so split into 3 teams of 2. One PAX does a loop of the rectangle while the other PAX completes as many reps of the exercises below. Then switch and repeat until 100 reps are completed by the duo. Complete all reps before moving to next exercise.
  1. BBS (100 reps total)
  2. Smurf Jacks (100 reps total)
  3. Merkins (100 reps total)
  4. Grady Corns (100 reps total)
Next up we busted out the baseballs (1 per duo). Each PAX took a turn doing Pick-Ups while the other PAX rolled them the ball. Basically, it is a side shuffle, pick up the rolled ball and roll/toss it back, side shuffle the other direction and do the same. First round was 25 pick-ups, second round was 10 pick-ups. Luckily no-one lost a tooth catching a baseball in the dark (came close though). Onto the line for a crack at the 300 yrd shuttle run, ideally in a minute or less. First round we went to the 50 yard line and back 3 times. Second round we went to the 25 yard line and back 6 times. Circled up for some light stretching then a mosey back to the 3rd tier of the parking lot. MARY:
  • Walking lunges down to tier 2 of parking lot
  • Reverse walking lunges down to tier 1
  • Curb dips (20)
  • American Hammers (12)
  • Cross Hold (12 count)
  • Shoulder Taps (12)
  • Dying cockroach (12)
  • Flutter kicks (12 count)
  • Plank till time

COT:

Peachtree RR 7/4 Changing of the guard 7/12

Naked-Man Moleskin:

Ended with this quote by Atomic Habits author James Clear (also shared on Slack last week):
Mental toughness is often framed as the perseverance that gets you across the finish line:
  • Find a way to make it happen
  • Push through the pain
  • Grind it out to the end
But most days, mental toughness isn't about crossing the finish line. It's about getting to the starting line.
  • Show up when no one is watching
  • Keep your eye on the ball
  • Do a little bit every day
Mental toughness is not skipping the days that are easy to skip.
